Fundraising in 2023–24

Our enthusiastic fundraising team keep busy throughout the year, raising vital funds in lots of different ways. SeeAbility is a 225 year old charity and with such a long history, fundraising has always been important to us. The money raised by our generous donors makes a huge difference to the lives of people with learning disabilities, autism and sight loss.

In 2023-24 these included sponsored events, partnerships with companies, trust and foundation grants, public donations and gifts in wills. The fantastic commitment from our supporters and donors meant we received 17,500 generous donations totalling just over £1million.

The public got involved in a variety of ways through running, walking, jumping and wheeling in events, as well as online gaming as part of our new Game for Change challenge.

One of our biggest sponsored events is the iconic London Marathon. Our large team of London Marathon runners turned out in strength, travelling from as far as the United States and China. Their energetic efforts raised over £74,000 in the year to the end of March 2024. We are so grateful for this and want to say a big thank you to each and every one of you.

Would you like to join our London Marathon team next year? We have guaranteed places in the April 2025 London Marathon and would love to welcome you to the SeeAbility team.

SeeAbility’s Big Give Campaign: The Gift of Movement

Last June, our Strategic Partnerships team embarked on planning what would become one of our most successful Big Give Christmas Challenges yet! The Big Give, a matched-giving campaign, doubles donations to SeeAbility by teaming them up with a corporate sponsor. Our partnership with Candis Club ensured match-funding for our generous donations.

With our ‘Gift of Movement’ campaign, we aimed to raise £40,000 to buy an Innowalk Pro for our specialist nursing home Heather House. This compact robotic rehabilitation trainer supports physical activity for people who may not be able to stand themselves, enabling them to keep mobile for as long as possible. There are a huge range of health and wellbeing benefits which drove our passion to fundraise.

Running from the end of November, the appeal deeply resonated with our supporters, particularly our incredible major donors who generously supported the cause throughout the week of fundraising. We also collaborated with Helen Fospero, television presenter and journalist, to create a compelling video in support of the appeal.

The results were beyond our wildest expectations! The Big Give Christmas Challenge surpassed its target, raising over £58,000, reaching 145% of our goal. The Heather House team is thrilled that they were not only able to buy the Innowalk Pro, but also ensure its maintenance and availability for the young people we support for years to come.

Thank you
