Celebrating diversity at SeeAbility on International Food Day
At SeeAbility, we are proud to have people from many cultures and backgrounds as part of our family. We thrive in our diversity, with everyone bringing their unique perspective and experiences to our goal of making the world more inclusive for people with learning disabilities, autism and sight loss.
International Food Day gave us a brilliant opportunity to celebrate that diversity. Colleagues and people we support across SeeAbility cooked and shared dishes from around the world – sharing their stories, flavours, and traditions. From the UK to Zimbabwe, it was wonderful to see diversity in action.
Maonei from Denecroft shared, "Food, it's not only about nutrients and calories. It's about sharing. It's about honesty. It's about identity." She added, “The Denecroft family had a good International Food Day celebration by bringing different types of food and sharing with each other.”
Over at Fairways, Mandy said, “Some delicious food was prepared by our colleagues from Poland, Romania, Nepal, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe. Thoroughly enjoyed by our colleagues and people we support!”
International Food Day was promoted by our internal Racial Awareness group, who promote diversity within the charity. The chair of the group commented:
“International Food Day was a wonderful reminder of how food connects us all. It was inspiring to see the people we support, their families and our colleagues come together to make food from a variety of countries.
Celebrating heritage and creating memories through the universal language of food. At SeeAbility, we’re not just sharing meals, we’re sharing stories, traditions, and a collective spirit of inclusion.”
We’re proud to honour the many cultures and backgrounds that make SeeAbility a true reflection of our community.
