Celebrating our last five years
This week we unveil our new strategy for 2022-2027 and we're so excited to share all our exciting and ambitious plans for the future. But we're also so proud of what we've achieved in the last five year strategy. Reflecting on the past as we look to the future, it's been a period of great achievement. The last five years have taught us that, even in the face of extreme challenges, we can all achieve great things, both personally and across the charity. This gives us confidence that the next five years will be equally as inspiring and fulfilling.
Whilst there have been hundreds of achievements, big and small, individual and collective, we wanted to share some of the major changes that SeeAbility has seen in each year of our previous strategy.
Year 1
- We began supporting people under the Transforming Care agenda to live outside of hospitals in the communities they choose.
Year 2
- Our colleague Scott Watkin BEM became the first person with a learning disability on our leadership team.
- After years of research, peer-reviewed articles and campaigning, we convinced NHS England to commit to the roll out of the special schools eye care service across the country.
Year 3
- We celebrated our status as one of the oldest disability charities in the world, marking our 220th anniversary with parties, challenges and a trek up Mount Toubkal
- We achieved our first home deregistration, giving people even greater choice and control over their lives.
Year 4
- We responded rapidly to the pandemic with our new Creating Connections digital inclusion programme, supporting more people with disabilities to be confident with digital technology.
Year 5
- We launched Ready, Willing and Able, our dynamic, person-centred supported employment programme.
- We were proud winners of Charity of the Year 2021 at the Charity Awards.
- We began supporting people under an innovative model of inclusive support in Redhill.
