Our 2023 Christmas Appeal
With your kind support, SeeAbility's colleagues and volunteers work to help people with learning disabilities, autism and sight loss to achieve their ambitions. This Christmas, we're asking you to join us in being ambitious for people we support by donating to our Christmas Appeal. With the cost of living still high, we are grateful for whatever you are able to give this year.
At SeeAbility, we believe that no matter how short, or long a life, everyone should have the opportunity to live, love, thrive and belong. Everyone should have the chance to achieve their dreams – whether these are small everyday ambitions or big life-changing ones.
SeeAbility makes the most of innovative technology and opportunities to ensure everyone we support can live their best life.
It’s about getting the most out of life while we can.
We often take for granted the ability to move freely. However, for some young people we support living with life-limiting, neurological conditions, every day can bring new challenges.
We’re excited to introduce you to our Physiotherapy Team at Heather House, a SeeAbility home providing world-leading support for young people with rare, life-limiting, and neurodegenerative conditions. The team love supporting Lizzie, whose story they are sharing with you below, this Christmas.
Lizzie is a real people person, and while she lives with a life-limiting condition, she is at her happiest when she can move freely. We invite you to read more about Lizzie over the page. Find out how the team are helping Lizzie to stay healthy, feel connected and experience joy.
SeeAbility never underestimate what is possible for someone.
All our teams work to create more opportunities for people we support through innovative technology and programmes. To do things they never thought possible, like learning new skills, finding a career, growing in confidence and experiencing every aspect of life.
On behalf of everyone at SeeAbility, thank you for your support and generosity. We wish you a happy Christmas and all the best for the New Year.

Introducing Lizzie
We are Laura, Lily, Izzy and Emma, the Physiotherapy Team at Heather House.
As a specialist home for people with life-limiting conditions, SeeAbility’s Heather House supports people to get the most out of life while they can.
Without the right support, young people could miss out on the opportunity to exercise, walk or even stand. Our specialist physiotherapy team use specific therapy interventions and equipment to keep people moving and active for as long as possible.
We’re proud to say that with our support everyone can experience the joy of movement. We will always try to find a way to support people to live their best lives.
Some people we support have neurodegenerative conditions and are born apparently healthy, able to run and jump like any other child. Sadly, at a young age they lose their sight, speech and eventually the ability to walk or move independently. They live shorter lives, often not reaching their thirties.
23-year-old Lizzie lives here and has a rare neurological disorder. Lizzie is a people person. She loves nothing more than being around her friends, family and support team, in a room full of friendly faces. She has a specialist wheelchair that she uses every day. However, she really enjoys being upright, standing and moving, and being close to the people she loves.
Lizzie was recently supported to use a revolutionary device in her physiotherapy sessions. This gives people the experience of moving in an upright position. When using this equipment, she can feel the sensation of walking. The joy on Lizzie’s face when she used it was beautiful to see!
We support Lizzie to use a range of innovative therapies and equipment like this during her physiotherapy sessions, which bring her to eye level with her friends, family and support team. She loves it. You can see it in her expression. Her eyes light up and she instantly becomes more confident.
With the opportunity to use this technology, we hope to see Lizzie’s confidence grow even further as she takes more control of her body, movement, and health.
Thank you for helping SeeAbility support more people to live, love, thrive and belong in 2024.
