Our 2023 Excellence Awards Winners
Thank you so much to everyone who submitted a nomination for our Excellence Awards. We were so thrilled to read so many wonderful words about our colleagues and how they have supported people to live the life they choose. Each of our awards represented one of our values, which ensure people we support are at the heart of everything we do.
We had 10 wonderful worthy winners:
Mel Sampson at Kent Support Service – Respect is our starting point
Mel won this award for going above and beyond in supporting the women at Kent Support Service – particularly in supporting Rebecca to go on a trip of a lifetime to see her brother in Australia.
The Horley Support Service Team – We spark imagination
The team at Horley Support Service advocate strongly for people they support, including Andrew, who was supported to reduce and stop psychotropic medications and is now much happier, more independent and living a good quality of life.
The Bristol Support Service Team – We learn together to be our best
By partnering with people they support, the team at Bristol Support Service took time to understand what each person wanted in their life and what was important to them. They have worked to boost people’s confidence and discover new talents.
Rebecca Tomlin, quality and innovation team – We believe in each other
Rebecca really lives and breathes SeeAbility’s values. She has taken the aims of the Quality of Life strategy and really run with it, putting plans in place for people to live better, healthier lives.
Lewis Gordon (Ready, Willing and Able supported employment team) – Respect is our starting point
Lewis worked hard to improve the efficiency of the Ready, Willing and Able team, as well as support multiple people to grow in confidence and find a career.
Nadine Hickman at The Willows, Leatherhead – We spark imagination
Nadine won this award for her creative and thoughtful support, including arranging for visits to a fire station, a racing track and a biker café for Christopher, who loved loud noises.
Sam Hawkins and Sam Kerr at Bristol Support Service – We learn together to be our best
Sam and Sam supported Caroline through her cancer diagnosis and treatment. Their selfless, unwavering and unstoppable dedication to Caroline saved her life, through supporting her to challenge the doctor’s decision not to provide treatment.
Ruth Hutton at Aldershot Support Service – We believe in each other
Wellbeing coach Ruth always puts others above herself. She supports the team in Aldershot with their wellbeing – emotional, financial, and more. Her fundraising efforts have raised over £40,000 in her time at SeeAbility!
Paula Thompson at The Bradbury Centre, Seaford– We spark imagination
Paula’s enthusiasm is infectious. She learnt sign language and brought back her knowledge to the team at The Bradbury Centre, encouraging everyone from colleagues to people they support to join in.
Peter Delafond in Leatherhead – Volunteer of the Year
For 23 years Peter has supported people in Leatherhead in various roles as a volunteer support worker, volunteer-coordinator and now back to being a volunteer again. He has built so many strong relationships and really makes a difference in people’s lives.
