Desiree D'Souza
What is your role?
Executive Director of Innovation and Social Impact.
What is your work history?
I have worked in charities for over 15 years. Early on, I supported international development projects to secure funding through corporate partnerships and over time, this led me to work with a wide range of partners, including people with lived experiences of disability to deliver transformational education, employment and advocacy programmes in the UK and around the world. I love my role at SeeAbility which enables us to bring together expertise in partnership working, marketing, communication, digital and project delivery, to create new opportunities for people we support.
What inspires you?
I love working with campaigners, particularly people who speak up for inclusion in every aspect of the word. It’s incredibly inspiring to learn from people who are driven by a sense of purpose, who have the skills to mobilise their communities and who are making radical change happen. Not all of them are famous.. it’s their everyday actions that inspire me the most as they show us how we can all play our part to make inclusion a reality.
What's your favourite thing to do outside work?
Spending time with my family and exploring the country side. You can’t beat a great woodland walk!
What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?
Simply – to be myself. And to never stop learning.
What’s one thing about you that people would be surprised to learn?
Oh loads of things.. I look forward to good conversations with colleagues and our partners where we learn these things about each other – this is certainly the very best part of my job!
